Consumer Reports Ranks Teaching Hospitals on Key Safety Measures
April 16, 2013: Consumer Reports' May 2013 issue ranks 258 U.S. teaching hospitals, including Baystate Medical Center, on five key safety measures.
 
2013 Match: BMC Has 100% Match Rate for Categorical Positions
April 01, 2013: Baystate Medical Center's 10 residency programs had an overall match rate of 100% for categorical positions (85 of 85), and 94% for all positions (87 of 92).
 
Pharmacy Residency Match: All of Baystate's PGY-1 Residency Slots Filled
April 01, 2013: PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Position Filled Via Early Commitment Baystate Medical Center matched all five of its open PGY-1 pharmacy residency positions in the Pharmacy Residency Match in March 2013. The one PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy residency position was filled using the early commitment procedure.
 
Baystate Midwifery & Women’s Health Practice Filmed as Part of Mama Sherpas Documentary
April 01, 2013: A film crew shooting footage for the documentary, The Mama Sherpas, followed the nurse midwives at Baystate Midwifery & Women’s Health Practice in the course of their work during the week of March 12, 2013.
 
Graduate Medical Education Administrators Selected to Present at ACGME Coordinator Forum
April 01, 2013: "The World Outside of Your Silo: Building an Engaged, Collaborative Community of Coordinators within an Institution” was presented by Gail Wall, C-TAGME, Program Administrator for the Internal Medicine Residency, and Martha Anderson, Graduate Medical Education Program Analyst.
 
2013 Outstanding Psychiatrist Award for Education Goes to Steven Fischel, MD
April 01, 2013: Dr. Steven Fischel, Psychiatry Residency Program Director, was selected by the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society (MPS) for their Outstanding Psychiatrist Award for Education.
 
Tanya Dorman, C-TAGME Elected Region I Alternate Representative for ARCOG
April 01, 2013: Tanya Dorman, Program Administrator for the Obstetrics-Gynecology Residency program, was elected Region I alternate representative for American Residency Coordinators in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ARCOG) in February 2013.
 
2013 Baystate Research Incubator Fund Award Winners
March 01, 2013: The Baystate Research Incubator Fund provides internal grants in the form of “seed” money to encourage research. 2013 Incubator Fund grants were awarded in December 2012 for a January 2013 start date.
 
Successful AAHRPP Reaccreditation Site Visit for Baystate Human Research Protection Program
March 01, 2013: The Baystate HRPP has been engaged for several months in the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) reaccreditation process. During the recent reaccreditation site visit, site visitors had high praises for Baystate, the HRPP, and everyone they interviewed.
 
Geriatric Medicine Fellows Receive Scholarships to Attend Futures Program

Obstetrics-Gynecology Residency Re-accredited for a Maximum 5 Years
March 01, 2013: The Residency Review Committee for Obstetrics-Gynecology has re-accredited the Obstetrics-Gynecology residency program for five years, the highest possible.
 
Brendan Kelly, MD Receives the 2013 Aisner Award in Physical Diagnosis Teaching
March 01, 2013: Dr. Brendan Kelly, Associate Program Director of the Medicine-Pediatrics residency program, is one of two winners of the 2013 Mark Aisner, MD Award for Excellence in Teaching Physical Diagnosis.
 
Maternal-Fetal Medicine is First in the State to be AIUM Accredited in Fetal Echocardiography
February 01, 2013: As of November 2012, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) gave its first Massachusetts accreditation in Fetal Echocardiography to Baystate Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
 
Surgery Residents Win Top Gun Competition at American College of Surgeons Meeting
February 01, 2013: Surgery residents Connie Rossini (PGY5), Kaitlyn Wong (PGY3), and Matthew Kronick (PGY1) won the Top Gun Competition of surgical skills at the Massachusetts Chapter of the American College of Surgeons's 59th Annual Meeting on December 1, 2012.

Baystate Chapter of the American Geriatrics Society Active in Community Education
February 01, 2013: In the latter half of 2012, Internal Medicine resident members of the Baystate Chapter of the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) have led four well-received teaching sessions for about 130 members of Baystate's Senior Class, a health and wellness program for adults 55 and older.
