Emergency Medicine Residents Selected for Leadership Fellowship
December 19, 2013: Sundeep Shukla MD, PGY3 Emergency Medicine resident, and Michele Schroeder MD, Emergency Ultrasonography fellow, were accepted into the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians (MACEP) Leadership and Advocacy Fellowship.
 
Surgery Residency Accredited for 10-Year Term
December 19, 2013: The Baystate Surgery Residency received a 10 year accreditation from ACGME.
 
Peter Lindenauer MD Honored for Academic Excellence
December 19, 2013: Dr. Peter Lindenauer, Director of the Center for Quality of Care Research (CQCR), has been awarded the Weinberg Family Prize for Academic Excellence, Baystate Health's highest academic honor, in October 2013.
 
Rebecca Starr MD Accepted to Delirium Researchers Planning Conference
December 19, 2013: Dr. Rebecca Starr, Division of Geriatrics, Palliative Care and Post-Acute Medicine, has been accepted to participate in the Bedside to Bench Conference, Delirium in Older Adults: Finding Order in the Disorder.

NHLBI R21 Grant to Study PAP Use in Surgery Patients with Apnea Awarded to Dr. Peter Lindenauer
November 01, 2013: Dr. Peter Lindenauer, Director of the Center for Quality of Care Research, has been awarded a R21 grant from NHLBI/NIH for a 2-year study, "Perioperative Use and Outcomes of Noninvasive Ventilation in Sleep Apnea."
 
PCORI Grant for Study of Advance Care Planning in Hemodialysis Patients received by Lewis Cohen MD
November 01, 2013: Dr. Lewis Cohen, Director of Renal Palliative Care Initiative, received a $2 million grant from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute for a 3-year project, "Shared Decision Making and Renal Supportive Care."
 
New Family Planning Fellowship Matched in First Year of Recruitment
November 01, 2013: The 2-year Family Planning Fellowship had success filling its first year position through the Fellowship in Family Planning matching process. Their first fellow, Antonella Lavelanet, DO, JD will start at Baystate on July 1, 2014.
 
Internal Medicine Residency Milestone Program for Faculty Facilitated by Dr. Michael Rosenblum
October 01, 2013: Dr. Michael Rosenblum, Internal Medicine Residency Program Director, along with faculty from IM residencies at the University of Connecticut and Yale University, facilitated the Northeast Milestone Collaborative's faculty development program in Hartford last month.

NHLBI K01 Career Development Grants Awarded Drs. Tara Lagu & Mihaela Stefan
August 01, 2013: Tara Lagu MD, MPH and Mihaela Stefan MD, academic hospitalists in the Center for Quality of Care Research (CQCR), have both recieved K01 Career Development grants from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The total of the two grants approaches $1.5 million.
 
National Symposium for Residents Working Abroad in Liberia Hosted by Baystate
August 01, 2013: In July, 35 residents and faculty from all over the U.S. were at Baystate Medical Center for the 2-day National HEARTT Liberia Pre-Departure Symposium.
 
Human Research Protection Program Receives Full 5-year Accreditation from AAHRPP
August 01, 2013: The Council on Accreditation of the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP) awarded Baystate's HRPP a full 5-year accreditation effective June 14, 2013.
 
Psychiatry Residency Graduates Its First Class
July 01, 2013: The Psychiatry Residency, established in 2009, held its first graduation ceremony on June 18, 2013 at the Log Cabin. Graduates from the inaugural class were Yu Dong MD, PhD, Valerie Sharpe MD, Nelson Tauro MD, and Ramanpreet Toor MD.

July 01, 2013: The Internal Medicine Residency program has recognized Dr. Kevin Hinchey, Chief Academic Officer and former Internal Medicine Residency Program Director, by naming a teaching award in his honor.

July 01, 2013: The Baystate Simulation Center and Goldberg Surgical Skills Laboratory was reaccredited as an ACS Accredited Level I Comprehensive Education Institute.

July 01, 2013: Both pharmacy residencies were accredited by the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists (ASHP).

June 01, 2013: Academic Week celebrated the contributions of its physicians, residents, fellows, faculty, advanced practitioners, nurses, allied health professionals, and the community to clinical and educational research. As the capstone event on the final day, May 24, 2013, awards were announced.
 
Midwifery Education Program Graduates 20th Class
June 01, 2013: The Baystate Midwifery Education Program held its 20th graduation ceremony in May 2013. The three nurse-midwife graduates have simultaneously earned a Masters of Science degree in Nursing from the Midwifery Institute of Philadelphia University.
 
Resident Research Award from the Society for Pediatric Research Given to Hijab Zubairi MD
June 01, 2013: Dr. Hijab Zubairi, PGY3 Medicine-Pediatrics resident, received one of three $1,000 resident research awards from the Society for Pediatric Research.
 
Summer Student Scholar Program Has Accepted 12 Students for Its 2013 Program
June 01, 2013: The 10‑week summer program offers the students the opportunity to participate a research project from start to finish and present project outcomes to the scientific community. Students also receive formal classroom training and personalized application in research design, implementation, and publication.

2013 Match: BMC Has 100% Match Rate for Categorical Positions
April 01, 2013: Baystate Medical Center's 10 residency programs had an overall match rate of 100% for categorical positions (85 of 85), and 94% for all positions (87 of 92).
 
Pharmacy Residency Match: All of Baystate's PGY-1 Residency Slots Filled
April 01, 2013: PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Position Filled Via Early Commitment Baystate Medical Center matched all five of its open PGY-1 pharmacy residency positions in the Pharmacy Residency Match in March 2013. The one PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy residency position was filled using the early commitment procedure.
