New Obstetrics-Gynecology Simulation Training Site Funded by Colodny Family Donation

July 01, 2014

A new satellite simulation training room on Wesson 2 was made possible by a generous donation by the family of the late Dr. Stephen Colodny, long-time Obstetrics-Gynecology department faculty member, as a tribute to his love of teaching.

"Our residents, faculty and community physicians now have a place close to L+D where they can practice skills during downtime, at night, and while on call," says Dr. Donald Kirton, Simulation Champion for Obstetrics-Gynecology. "We have also already started using the room for simulation research."

The room is equipped with a laparoscopic FLS box trainer, laparoscopic and open instruments, and a side desk for practicing suturing and for use of other models. There is also an iPad for video instruction.

According to Dr. Gladys Fernandez, Administrative Manager of the Baystate Simulation Center, Ron Bush, Simulation Center technical skills trainer, advised on supplies for the new training site, and is available as a resource for equipment issues and troubleshooting problems with training materials.
