Career Description
Medical laboratory Technician (MLT) often works under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist). A MLT performs routine tests in all areas of the clinical laboratory including Microbiology, Hematology, Immunology, Chemistry and Blood Banking. Test results are reported to physicians and pathologists who aid in diagnosing various disease states.
Education
Accredited programs (approximately 2 years) can lead to associate and baccalaureate degrees.
Pre-requisites
Clinical experiences are arranged through the academic advisor from programs affiliated with Baystate Medical Center.
Length of Clinical Experience
Students will participate in clinical experiences for a period of 6 months.
