Goals
The goals of the Benign Gynecology Acting Internship are to:
- broaden the student’s clinical experience in gynecology, including exposure to both inpatient and ambulatory settings;
- include the student as an integral member in the patient-care team, including active participation in gynecologic surgical procedures;
- improve the student’s patient care skills, including the ability to perform proper and complete histories and physical exams, formulate differential diagnoses, and make clinical decisions;
- improve the student’s surgical skills.
Objectives
The student will be able to…
- Obtain a pertinent history with emphasis on women’s health issues, and perform a competent physical examination including speculum exam, wet prep, bimanual, and rectovaginal exam;
- Develop differential diagnoses, pursue an appropriate plan to refine the diagnosis, and develop an evidence-based treatment plan;
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- Function as the first assistant during gynecologic surgical procedures.

| Prerequisite: Successful completion of Medicine and Ob-Gyn Clerkships. July - December: Only open to students who are pursuing Ob/Gyn residency. January - July: Open to any interested student. |
