Goals
The goal of the Pediatric Surgery Elective is to expose the student more in-depth to surgical diseases of children. The student will not only become acquainted with the operative aspect of pediatric surgery but also the preoperative and postoperative care. They will not only spend time in the hospital but also in the private pediatric surgical office. This rotation is designed for students interested in a career in surgery as well as interested in a career in pediatrics.
Objectives
The student will…
- be able to identify a child with an acute surgical abdomen
- be able to apply anatomic and embryologic knowledge to clinical diagnostic and management of children
- feel comfortable working as a part of a team
- participate in discussions and by the end of the rotation give a 5 minute presentation.
