Goals
This elective provides a broad exposure to the many types of infectious disease problems.
Objectives
The student will be able to…
- perform the initial interview and examination of a patient.
- formulate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies and present them to an attending for discussion and implementation.
- obtain basic knowledge of antibiotics and common infectious diseases.
- become proficient in the interpretation of gram stains.
- be able to explain the mechanisms of action and indication for use of commonly employed antimicrobial agents.
- understand the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of common infectious diseases.
