Goals

This elective provides a broad exposure to the many types of infectious disease problems.

Objectives

The student will be able to…

  • perform the initial interview and examination of a patient.
  • formulate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies and present them to an attending for discussion and implementation.
  • obtain basic knowledge of antibiotics and common infectious diseases.
  • become proficient in the interpretation of gram stains.
  • be able to explain the mechanisms of action and indication for use of commonly employed antimicrobial agents.
  • understand the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of common infectious diseases.
