Individuals who meet the program requirements and are interested in applying to Baystate Medical Center's Midwifery Education Program may download an application, call Kathy Snow, the Program Secretary at 413-794-4448 or email your request to midwifery@baystatehealth.org.
Completed applications are due by April 1st. Applications received after April 1st may be considered on a space-available basis. A personal interview is a required component of the application process.
Applicants who would like to take advantage of the concurrent master's program at the Midwifery Institute at Philadelphia University must indicate that intent on the Baystate Midwifery Education Program application and be accepted by both institutions. Education

Current RN license.

BA or BS degree, any major.

College level course in Physical Assessment with a clinical component within the last five years.

An undergraduate course in statistics.

Transcripts

Transcripts from all previous academic programs.  A GPA of 3.0 or greater is required.

Transcripts should also be sent to Philadelphia University.

Work Experience

One year of full-time maternal-child health nursing experience is strongly recommended.*

Current CPR certification (must be maintained throughout the program)

Current AHA/AAP Neonatal Resuscitation Certification is required for graduation and will be offered as part of the curriculum.  Past students have found it helpful to obtain this certification prior to entry to the program.

Personal interview and essay
* Candidates who do not have labor and delivery experience but who are otherwise qualified are required to complete a self-study component designed by the Midwifery Education Program. This includes at a minimum: completion of a basic fetal monitoring course (minimum of 8 hours), labor support experience, attending a childbirth preparation course, and observation of a nurse on a labor/delivery unit (varied time requirements based on experience).
