The PGY-1 pharmacy residency program at Baystate Medical Center prepares you to practice in your chosen career path, whether clinical pharmacist, clinical pharmacy specialist, adjunct faculty member, or specialty resident/fellow.
Varied and Balanced Training
Our intense twelve-month PGY-1 residency program provides experiences in a variety of settings, focusing on the core areas of pharmacy practice specified in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Accreditation Standards, including patient care and practice management.
PGY-1 program graduates will be self-directed learners in the areas of:
Service
- Utilize the "best practice" model in the delivery of patient care
- Function as an integral member of the healthcare team
- Employ evidence-based thought processes for the resolution of clinical problems
- Promote and support a safe and effective medication use process
- Serve as leaders of the profession
Teaching
- Educate healthcare providers about "best practice" through written and verbal means
- Effectively communicate teaching points to students in small group, classroom, and practice environments
- Actively participate in patient counseling and other forms of patient teaching
Scholarly Activity
- Exercise scholarly thought in the practice of pharmacy
- Understand the concepts of clinical research
Graduate with a Teaching Certificate
Our affiliation with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS)—Worcester Campus provides exposure to academia. You will gain teaching experience as a preceptor of pharmacy students, and by taking part in a series of teaching seminars and educational programs.
