Graduates of the BMC PGY-1 pharmacy residency will be self-directed learners in the areas of:
Service
- Utilize the "best practice" model in the delivery of patient care
- Function as an integral member of the healthcare team
- Employ evidence-based thought processes for the resolution of clinical problems
- Promote and support a safe and effective medication use process
- Serve as leaders of the profession
Teaching
- Educate healthcare providers about "best practice" through written and verbal means
- Effectively communicate teaching points to students in small group, classroom, and practice environments
- Actively participate in patient counseling and other forms of patient teaching
Scholarly Activity
- Exercise scholarly thought in the practice of pharmacy
- Understand the concepts of clinical research
Balanced Training
The intense twelve-month program provides experiences in a variety of settings, focusing on the core areas of practice specified in the ASHP Accreditation Standards including patient care and practice management.
Our affiliation with the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS)—Worcester Campus provides residents with exposure to academia. BMC Residents will be able to gain teaching experience as preceptors of pharmacy students and also by taking part in a series of teaching seminars and educational programs. Graduates of the BMC PGY-1 Residency Program will attain a teaching certificate.
