My name is Yelena Gelman and I just started my emergency medicine residency at Baystate. I grew up in Southern California. I attended college at UCLA, but soon decided that I hated the weather in California and moved to Philadelphia to attend medical school at PCOM. I'm now at Baystate and so happy to be a part of this huge family. Something that's so nice about being here is the overwhelming sense of camaraderie that exists between the residents as well as the faculty. In the emergency department, where there's always an unpredictable chaos and never enough beds, one thing that is always predictable is the environment that promotes learning and personal growth. I feel very comfortable in this chaotic ED because I know that there is always support from faculty as well as other residents that will help you get through even the most difficult situations. My experience here thus far has exceeded my expectations. I know that with the acuity of the patients at Baystate as well as the immensely high volume that our ED sees, I will be ready to handle anything once completing this program. |
