Hi! My name is Mark and I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York.  Growing up in Buffalo you have little choice to be a Bills and Sabres fan.  Despite what seems like a yearly, or more precisely, weekly disappointment – I still hold true to the Sunday Fall ritual of watching my beloved Bills find yet another way to disappoint.

Having spent most of my life in Buffalo – when it came time to match, I thought I would try a completely different location.  Before the interview process I would never have guessed Springfield, MA is where I would spend the next 3 years of my life.   However, I fell in love with Baystate the first shift I worked as a medical student, and each day of residency has only confirmed my affection for the residency program and the area.

While the education and pathology is second to none, what makes this program truly special is its emphasis on maintaining a well-roundness.  There is ample opportunity to pursue interests outside of work.  The Springfield area – particularly Northampton -  gives you a small town feel, and yet Boston and New York City are close enough for day trips.

In addition, the staff is friendly and takes an active interest in you as a person.  If there is ever a time you need assistance, the attendings and fellow residents are always first to ask if they can help.  Having grown up in a city with the slogan “a city of good neighbors’, I could not be more proud to have called Baystate home for the past 3 years.
