Message from the Emergency Medicine Chief Residents

The Baystate Emergency Medicine Residency Program provides an unparalleled training environment.  As one of the busiest emergency departments in the country, we care for an astounding array of high acuity patients spanning the clinical spectrum.   We are guided by our tremendous teaching faculty and receive the necessary support from our dedicated nurses and ancillary staff.

At Baystate, high quality training does not come at the expense of personal welfare; on the contrary, resident health is considered an integral part of an effective learning experience.  Our directors and faculty are strong advocates of a balanced residency experience.  To this end, emphasis is placed on circadian-friendly scheduling that provides ample time for family life, personal interests, and resident bonding. Our program supports an annual 3-day-resident-only summer retreat, a one-week experience at an ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians) Conference as a third year, monthly informal journal clubs sponsored by faculty, and frequent departmental gatherings and events.

As chief residents, our aim is to strengthen and advance the mission set forth by our residency program. We serve as liaisons between our colleagues, the administration, and other hospital departments, working together always to improve the residency and the function of the hospital as a whole.   We are a proud part of the Baystate Emergency Medicine Residency Program and hope you give strong consideration to calling Baystate home for the next 3 years.
