Healthcare Quality & Hospital Medicine Track

The “Healthcare Quality and Hospital Medicine Track” will offer residents the opportunity to train in key areas vital to a career in Hospital Medicine and to acquire core knowledge, skills and attitudes in areas of Quality, Safety, Leadership and Procedural Medicine.  In the elective month the residents will explore the fundamental issues in defining, measuring and improving healthcare quality and safety. The elective also offer education in hospital administration, procedural medicine (lines, vents, thoracocenthesis, and intubation), patient care in a community hospital and multidisciplinary interfacing (PM, PT/OT, respiratory therapy).

The residents will participate in the monthly hospital journal club, QI conferences and weekly Center for Quality of Care Research meetings. They will take part in a research or practical project surrounding either quality improvement or patient safety. The faculty mentors are actively engaged in patient care and quality improvement projects and research.

This track is designed for residents who are interested in Hospital Medicine careers as well as those who plan Fellowship training (particularly fellowships with a strong inpatient focus).
