Upon completing high school in Ontario, Canada, Shiv attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. Prior to his acceptance to medical school he was actively involved in the community where he volunteered at the Trillium Health Centre, Ontario March of Dimes, Heart and Stroke Foundation and Kidney Foundation. Shiv was actively involved in the squash community where he was ranked within the top 15 in the under 19 age bracket and competed at the national level. He is a certified Squash Canada coach and had coached junior players. During his medical school training, Shiv participated in the development and implementation of the Peer-led Teaching Program, whereby clinical students of good standing are selected to teach pre-clinical students. He was also elected by his peers to captain and coach the squash team for 3 consecutive seasons. In addition to squash, he enjoys hockey, cricket, running, lifting weights, reading and playing tabla. |
