It is Fernando’s view that healthcare is the marriage of science and the art of patient interaction. As he completed his clinical clerkships, he discovered his calling to be an Internist. After receiving his medical degree, he completed a year of required social service in an underserved community in Mexico. Fernando received the “Carta al Merito” (merit letter) due to his exemplary performance during his social service year. As a research assistant, he has conducted clinical studies, both in Mexico and the U.S. Fernando was attracted to the residency program at Baystate due to its reputation in academics, research and its evidence-based approach to medicine. After residency, he aspires to complete a fellowship at a prestigious institution. In his non-hospital hours, Fernando enjoys water sports, jogging, and martial arts.
