As a biology major at Florida State, Carmela was introduced to the field of Epidemiology, quickly realizing that it perfectly fit her personality. She graduated summa cum laude from Emory University, earning a Master of Public Health degree with an emphasis in epidemiology. While an epidemiologist at the Florida Department of Health, she became more interested in studying medicine and discovered her desire to become an internist. Carmela has produced numerous poster and oral presentations, and a multitude of non-peer-reviewed online publications. While in medical school, she participated in a medical mission to Nicaragua, providing medical care to remote villagers. Carmela has come to Baystate because she wanted to “enter an outstanding residency program.” In addition to her passion for medicine, Carmela is an avid sports fan who enjoys attending professional sporting events.
