Maura earned her B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Michigan. Prior to matriculating at Michigan State College of Human Medicine, she completed an M.S. degree in Medical Sciences at Drexel University. Her research work during this time culminated in a publication in The American Journal of Nephrology. In her preclinical years, she was dedicated as a volunteer and officer for the school’s student-run Friendship Clinic for under-served patients. Maura was awarded the Khagany Family Endowed Scholarship for achievement in academics, leadership, and community service. Maura immigrated to the United States from El Salvador. She is fluent in Spanish and is interested in an ongoing commitment to under-served medicine in Latin America and within the United States. She enjoys concerts (as a performer and in the audience!) and salsa dancing.
