Vasanth Kainkaryam, MD

Vasanth did his undergraduate studies at Cornell University where he double majored in Biology Sciences and Linguistics.  While at Cornell, Vasanth worked as a campus EMT and research assistant performing independent research in linguistics.  He also worked at the World Health Organization headquarters in Geneva Switzerland helping to develop the Genomic Resource Centre.  During medical school, Vasanth was class president, Inter-class senate president, and senator-at-large.  As well, he was a substitute teacher, and worked with the medical reader’s theatre group.  He has a significant interest in the deaf community and was founder and coordinator of the Deaf Health Pathway in Deaf Language, Health and Culture.  His work with the Deaf has led to a presentation in Madrid, Spain.  Besides being fluent in conversational sign language, his interest in linguistics has led to his fluency in many languages, including Tamil, Kannada, French, Hindi & Latin.  He enjoys international travel, South Indian classical music, and photography.
