Obstetrics-Gynecology Residency Curriculum PG4

Nature & Scope

The PG4 resident assigned to the Obstetrical Service supervises low risk and high risk services. As part of this assignment, they scrub on more advanced obstetrical procedures and assist junior residents. Procedures performed include repeat cesarean sections, cerclage placement, antenatal surgery and operative deliveries.

As the Administrative Resident, they are responsible for arranging work schedules for all houseofficers, assigning vacations, and conduct business meetings of the houseofficers to problem solve issues.

When assigned to the Ward Gynecology Service, they are responsible for evaluating patients who may be scheduled for surgery or admission and presenting them to the attending physician. In addition, they will either act as primary surgeon or surgical assistant to another resident for all cases on this service.

While on the Private Gynecology Service, they will supervise the residents under them as well as perform the more complicated procedures, such as vaginal surgery and urogynecologic surgery.

On the Gynecologic Oncology Service, they will supervise the residents under them as well as assist in the evaluation and workup of assigned patients. In addition they will perform advanced oncology procedures directly with the Gyn Oncologist.

There is a PG4 night float rotation which allows PG4 residents to take call responsibilities only on a weekend rotation. All rotations meet the ACGME resident work hour requirements. On all rotations, they are responsible to the attending physician on the service.

Residents are also responsible for maintaining their medical records and following the policies of Baystate Medical Center and the Department.
