Research and scholarly activities are essential to Baystate’s mission to improve the health of people in our communities.
As an academic teaching hospital and the Western Campus of Tufts University School of Medicine, Baystate Medical Center faculty and research staff conduct basic, clinical and biomedical research in many medical and surgical specialties.
Baystate has a nationally-recognized multidisciplinary research program in the Center for Quality of Care Research.

Baystate strives to promote honesty, integrity, and transparency and has adopted policies and procedures to ensure that personal interests do not interfere with how research at Baystate is designed, conducted, or reported.
When Baystate applies for or receives funds from federal agency within the U.S. Public Health Service, such as the National Institutes of Health or the Food and Drug Administration, it must follow specific federal regulations. Baystate has adopted a policy to ensure that those regulations are followed, "Disclosure Of Financial Interests And Management Of Financial Conflicts Of Interest For U.S. Public Health Service Funded Research." Requests for Information on Financial Conflicts of Interest
Anyone in the community can ask whether a researcher who has a key role on a research project that receives funding from a Public Health Service agency has a financial conflict of interest, and if so, how Baystate is managing it to make sure that it does not affect the research.
