“One does not have to have quilting experience to participate in this free support group,” said Claudia Benoit, LICSW, Oncology Social Worker, “it is designed for cancer patients, survivors and their families to provide a forum where they can enjoy quilting as they receive support, find comfort and share encouragement with each other.”
The group will be co-facilitated by Benoit, and avid quilter Judith Samsom. Quilts made by the group will be donated to community members undergoing cancer treatment as well as hospice patients.
Nancy Price, RN BSN, OCN and supervisor of the Baystate Regional Cancer Program at Mary Lane Hospital, said “It is an inspiration to see people who have been touched by cancer still pursue their passion and reach out to others, this process is healing for all who participate.”
Sewing machines and supplies will be made available by funds raised by the Shirley Batsie Memorial Rose Sale. |
