Dr. Benjamin Liptzin oversees all clinical and academic activities of the Department of Psychiatry at Baystate Health.
Prior to coming to Baystate, he served in the Public Health Service for four years at the National Institute of Mental Health. He was director of Geriatric Psychiatry and later assistant general director at McLean Hospital and director of the Geriatric Education Center at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Liptzin received his bachelors degree magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa and Honors with Exceptional Distinction in Psychology from Yale University. He was awarded his MD from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and did his psychiatry residency at the University of Virginia Hospital. He is past president of the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society, Trustee-at-Large of the American Psychiatric Association, secretary-treasurer of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, board member of the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts, board member of the Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts, ands board member of the American Psychiatric Association Political Action Committee.
