Quality Report Welcome

Measuring, reporting, and communicating the results of care from high volume areas as well as key system objectives demonstrate Baystate Health's ongoing commitment to outstanding quality, patient safety and satisfaction, and innovative practices.

April 2013

Welcome to the Baystate Health Quality Report.  We recognize that you have a choice in healthcare, and we encourage you to make informed decisions about you and your family’s healthcare.  Our Quality Report was one of the first of its kind in the country to be transparently accountable to our community on success and opportunities to improve.  This report highlights the excellent care we provide to our patients.  We share data for key medical conditions and procedures, such as coronary artery bypass graft surgery, total joint replacement surgery, heart attack, heart failure, stroke, pneumonia, pediatric asthma, and women’s health.  Our quality report is one of our ways to share with our employees and our community our commitment to evidence-based quality care, patient safety, and satisfaction.

Baystate Health’s mission is to improve the health of the people in our communities every day, with quality and compassion.   To provide the highest quality of care to our patients, we constantly monitor our quality using a set of proven, recommended medical treatments and processes, called Core Measures.  The Core Measures are a group of national patient care recommendations for treatments or processes that are based on scientific evidence, and have been shown to produce the best results for a specific condition or procedure.

Baystate Health and other hospitals across the country measure and compare their performance in these Core Measures.   Throughout this report you will see how Baystate Health hospitals are performing in comparison to the best hospitals in the United States.   We are pleased to share the results with you.

Before you leave, please visit our Awards page to view the numerous awards Baystate Health entities have won for providing excellent clinical care.

Sincerely,
