At Baystate Franklin Medical Center, we have a continuum of behavioral health acute services. There is a 22-bed inpatient Mental Health Unit that serves patients age 18 and older for Franklin, and surrounding counties and a Partial Hospitalization Program who also serves adults who require outpatient intensive care.

Peter Halperin, MD, is the Medical Director of the Baystate Franklin Psychiatry Department.  Maria Andrea Vidal, MD, joined the psychiatric staff in May, 2011.

Outpatient Services

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), a service of Baystate Franklin Medical Center, located at 48 Sanderson Street in the Outpatient Services Building of Baystate Franklin Medical Center, is a day treatment program for adults, ages 18 and up, who are experiencing acute emotional distress.  Open Monday-Friday from 9 am to 2:30pm, PHP provides group therapy, psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring, weekly treatment planning and aftercare planning.  PHP’s specialties include treatment for trauma and dual diagnosis (mental health and substance abuse), as well as general psychiatric issues.  Clients attend PHP three to five days a week.  Most insurance plans cover PHP.  We offer free transportation to most parts of Franklin County.

The Eating Disorder Program of PHP is a separate program for women, ages 16 and up, who suffer from Anorexia, Bulimia, and Overeating disorders.  The program meets once a week (Thursday evenings, 4-7pm) and provides psychoeducation groups, meal planning groups and meal, interpersonal therapy groups, as well as nutrition monitoring, medical check-ins, and monthly treatment planning.  Like PHP, most insurance plans cover the Eating Disorder Program.

Both programs are simple to access.  Simply call Behavioral Health’s Central Intake at 413-773-4444 to schedule an intake appointment.  For more information about these programs, call 413-773-2546.
