A Psychiatric Crisis Service clinician from Behavioral Health Network is present in Baystate Medical Center’s Emergency Department 24 hours a day. A board certified psychiatrist is available to the clinician for telephone consultation and case review, and on-site evaluation when necessary.
The Emergency Department and Psychiatric Crisis Service provide patients with a medical evaluation (including appropriate laboratory tests) followed by a thorough psychiatric evaluation, with a specific focus on assessment of risk. Psychopharmacologic therapy and crisis intervention strategies are used as necessary.
After evaluation, patients may be referred for inpatient or partial hospitalization, respite care, substance abuse treatment, or outpatient therapy. Information is also provided about local support groups and community resources.
