Therapeutic Milieu
Milieu refers to the treatment environment. The SCIP program promotes success both within and outside the program by creating a nurturing and respectful milieu in which children feel safe and valued. Challenging behavior is viewed as the result of deficits in particular skills, and the focus of the program is identifying and teaching these skills. Our experienced staff help children learn skills to manage emotions, improve relationships with others, and meet academic expectations. The Collaborative Problem-Solving Approach of Dr. Ross Greene forms the core of this work.
Academics
Students have 2 to 2 ½ hours per day of academic tutorial time. Massachusetts curriculum frameworks are followed for Math and English. Frameworks are followed for Science and Social Studies when work is provided by the sending school.
