Cancer Care at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital

If you require treatment for cancer, you can have the best of two worlds thanks to the Baystate Regional Cancer Program:

  • Access to region's leading cancer specialists and leading edge technology at the D'Amour Cancer Center 40 minutes away in Springfield.
    • You can take advantage of free daily shuttle van service from Ware to Springfield and back when you need therapy at the D'Amour Center.
    • If you drive yourself, the D'Amour Center offers free valet parking.
  • The convenience of receiving care from local cancer specialists and selected treatments locally at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital.
  • Baystate Mary Lane Hospital offers a home-away-from-home setting where patients with cancer and their families can come for routine examinations, treatments, and lab work in an attractive area with frame art works and inspirational words.

  • Our physicians are the same top cancer specialists you will find at the Baystate Regional Cancer Program in Springfield, so BMLH patients have access to the most current cancer care, including evaluation, diagnostics, treatment, national research protocols, support groups, and counseling.

Physicians and clinicians at both locations have electronic access to your most current medical records.  This allows staff at both locations to collaborate closely and take an active role in determining your care and treatment plans.

You’ll benefit from having access to integrated, expert care.

  • Baystate’s radiation oncology program offers the largest group of radiation oncologists in Western Massachusetts with four board certified physicians.
  • All of your Baystate medical information (including x-rays, pathology report, and dictated notes from your physicians) is stored in an electronic medical record, and is immediately available to your cancer specialist at the D’Amour Center and at Baystate Mary Lane Hospital.
  • The Baystate Mary Lane Hospital oncologists, Dr. Richard Steingart and Dr. Donald Higby, spend the majority of their week at the D’Amour Cancer Center and are readily available to discuss your situation with your radiation doctors.
  • Baystate’s radiation oncologists participate in multiple conferences with other physicians at both Baystate Mary Lane Hospital and Baystate Medical Center to discuss breast, lung, esophagus, brain, stomach, pancreas, colon, and pediatric cancers. These conferences are attended by your Baystate Mary Lane Hospital oncologist and surgeon, as well as the
Baystate radiation oncologists where your case can be presented and discussed to develop a joint treatment plan.

This partnership results in your having more expert opinions for your treatment and a higher level of coordinated care.
