The emotional aspects of cancer are very real. Responses to the diagnosis and treatment may vary greatly, but many social, emotional and spiritual concerns may surface. Patients and families deal with the stress of the disease by tapping into their existing coping mechanisms. Your physician and care team want to insure that you have every possible opportunity to get the care you need. Sometimes, emotional needs are invisible to others. It is understood that cancer is stressful, and it is not unusual to have periods when you may feel the need to seek support.
For those patients being treated within the Baystate Regional Cancer Program, we have oncology social workers available to provide individual, family and group counseling services to assist in the following areas:
• Your reactions to illness
• Family concerns
• Stress reduction
• Relaxation
• Difficulties in making decisions
• Your feelings about yourself
• Your changing roles
• Financial or insurance concerns
• Advocacy in health care
• Community resources
• In home services
• Workplace issues
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Transportation
• Pain management
• Long range planning
Please contact us if you feel you need help in any of these areas.
