Save the Date-Rays of Hope Breast Cancer Survivor's Day 4/27/13
Baystate provides a breast cancer survivorship program to help women manage the physical and emotional aspects of life during and after cancer treatment.
The program is free and open to all breast cancer survivors and includes:
- Proper follow-up to detect local or distant recurrence and second cancers.
- Management of health issues that may be a result of treatment.
- Wellness programs
- Breast cancer support groups
The program includes clinical and outreach components.
Clinical: Women in the program are seen annually by nurse practitioners Sandra Hubbard and Catherine Tipton, who are trained in health maintenance and symptom management. During the visit, they discuss breast, heart, and bone health; avoiding weight gain; and management of menopausal symptoms without using estrogen. Family history is updated, and a breast exam performed. Women are scheduled for their annual mammogram in conjunction with their visit. SAME DAY appointments are made for yearly physical exam and digital mammogram with copies of reports sent to PCP and Gyn offices.
Outreach: The Survivorship Program provides ongoing programs that focus on nutrition, complementary therapies, exercise and cultural interests and are held four times a year primarily at Baystate’s Conference Center, 361 Whitney Avenue in Holyoke from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. with light refreshments offered. This location is just behind the Holyoke Mall with easy to access from I-91.
