Specialists in Baystate Medical Center’s Electrophysiology Laboratory perform approximately 350 diagnostic and 2,500 treatment procedures per year. In 2007, we renovated the facility and now offer two state-of-the-art interventional suites for diagnosing and treating conditions that affect the heart and its conduction system. Depending on your care needs, you may be referred to our Device Clinic for education and follow-up exams.
Tests & Procedures
Pacemaker & defibrillator implantations: Most arrhythmias result from problems in the electrical system of the heart. If your arrhythmia is serious, you may need one of two devices implanted under your skin.
Tilt Table Test: If you have been experiencing dizziness or lightheadedness (known as presyncope), or have fainted or passed out (syncope) in the past, your doctor may have you take a tilt table test. This test can help show why you have had these symptoms.
Ablations: Cardiac ablation is a procedure that is used to destroy areas in your heart that may be causing your heart rhythm problems. During the procedure, small wires called electrodes are placed inside your heart to measure your heart’s electrical activity. These electrodes are also be used to destroy the bad areas of your heart.
