Vision of Nursing...

As Leaders in Practice - Partners in Care, the Division of Nursing strives to be a creative and resourceful nursing staff whose patient care delivery systems are nationally recognized for excellence and serve as models for nursing.

  • Our profession requires us to be accountable as individuals for our practice which is based on a unique and evolving body of knowledge. As committed professionals we collaborate, share and expand our knowledge in interaction with others.
  • Committed to patient centered care, we actively partner with our patients and their families to address their needs and define their desired outcomes. With the patient/family as active participants and the focus of care, we act as advocates and coordinators of care as we collaborate with other members of the team to meet defined outcomes.
  • We acknowledge patients as multi-faceted, unique and dynamic beings. We also recognize the family and community as integral to care. We value the multicultural dimensions of our patients, their families and community. Our commitment extends across the life span and addresses health promotion, maintenance, and disease prevention.

ALT Baystate Medical Center's high quality nursing care earned its second designation as a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence - one of only seven in Massachusetts and 18 in New England.

Nurse Residency
Starting Summer 2013

The 1-year Nurse Residency Program will guide nurses “from supervision to autonomy as they make their transition from novice student to competent practicing nurse," says Cara Chandler, RN, MS, Program Manager of the new residency.

Residency graduates will form a pool from which Baystate's nurse managers can hire.

The Nurse Residency Program is a collaboration between Baystate's Department of Nursing Practice and Professional Development, the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).
