Services for Patients and Visitors

Visiting Hours

The Visitors Policy at Baystate Franklin Medical Center features:

  • Open visiting hours
  • Rooming in accommodations for partners who wish to stay overnight after the birth of a baby or for parents to sleep in a sick child's room
  • Room service menus
  • A definition of family as anyone who is important to the patient, including children with adult supervision
  • A philosophy of care that includes the patient and family as one.

Since visiting can be tiring for patients, we ask that visitors be sensitive to this and limit the length of their visits and the number of people visiting at any one time.

We ask visitors not to disturb other patients by please being as quiet as possible in the halls or when visiting a patient in a semi-private room.

Hospital staff may have to interrupt visits at times to administer patient care, but we invite visitors back to the bedside as soon as possible.

All patients and visitors may park for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the High Street, Beacon and Sanderson Street lots.

Handicap parking is also available at the fron section of these lots.

If you have any questions or need assistace, please call the hospital operator, and a security representative will be happy to assist you.

Social Work   Services

Social workers are available to assist you with problems that arise during your hospitalization.  They can counsel you and your family regarding difficulties caused by acute or chronic illness and make referrals to community agencies for support once you return home.  To contact a social worker, call 3-2303 or ask your nurse for assistance.

Hospital Case Management

A hospital case manager is available seven days a week to work with and assist patients and families from admission to discharge — whether that is at home with a visiting nurse or at a rehabilitation facility.  Call 3-2303 or ask your nurse for assistance if you want a hospital case manager to contact you.

Ethics Consultation

An Ethics Service, made up of both hospital staff and community members can assist patients and their loved ones when faced with ethical questions about medical treatments or technology.  The service members all have a special interest in health care ethics and quality of care.  Patients, physicians or family members may initiate an Ethics Service consultation request.  To request an ethics consultation, call 3-2303.
