Ultrasound Division of the Department of Radiology

The Baystate Health Ultrasound Department is the largest in western Massachusetts, performing approximately 22,000 exams per year, including, but not limited to:

  • Ob/Gyn
  • Abdominal
  • Renal
  • Radiation/oncology
  • Pre-op or intra-op guidance for treatment
  • Small parts and Doppler studies of various vessels.

We also perform invasive procedures such as paracentesis, thoracentesis, fine needle and core biopsies and neonatal heads, hips and spines. Most examinations can be done at the bedside, if needed.

 

Staff

The department is staffed with on-site board certified radiologists and/or radiology residents and registered or registry eligible sonographers 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

In most cases, appointments ordered or coordinated by a physician are necessary.

  • Emergency exams - call the department directly at 413-794-4640.
  • Routine appointments - schedule by calling Access Services at 413-794-2222.

 

Patient Information

Depending on the body area of your ultrasound exam, you may receive specific instruction on how to prepare for your ultrasound.  Be sure to follow any instructions given by your physician or by Ultrasound Department staff when you make your appointment.
