Guidelines for Referral to the Sports Concussion Clinic
We treat only sports-related concussions.
We can refer you to other programs within Baystate Health that treat non-sports related concussions and more severe traumatic brain injuries.
Many concussion resolve quickly, within a matter of days. Such patients can be managed effectively by their primary care physicians and, if available, team athletic trainer. Typically, the patient should be referred to the clinic if he/she continues to demonstrate symptoms a week after the concussion, OR
The patient has suffered multiple concussions in a brief timeframe.
The patient has a history of multiple concussions in the past
There are complicating factors making return to play and/or school decisions difficult (e.g., pre-existing mood disorder, learning disabilities, ADHD, or learning disorders, etc.)
If you are unsure whether referral to the BMC Sports Concussion Clinic is appropriate, contact Zachary Marowitz, Psy.D, at 413-794-7035 ext. 3, or by email.
