When to call a chaplain

  • When you desire prayer or spiritual counseling, or specifically ask to see a chaplain.
  • When you need someone to listen to and support you.
  • When you or your family desire communion, baptism, sacrament of the sick, or anointing.
  • When you desire a better understanding of your relationship with God, or a need for spiritual guidance and direction.
  • When you desire spiritual support as you undergo medical or surgical treatment.
  • When you are wrestling with issues such as unresolved grief, lack of faith, inability to pray, a sense of being abandoned by God, or experiencing loss of hope or meaning of life.
  • When you need information about community religious resources.

How to call a chaplain

  • An interfaith chaplain is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by phone or pager at 413-784-2899 (within the hospital x4-2899).
  • Your medical staff person can contact the chaplain on your behalf.
