The Department of Surgery at Baystate Health encompasses all surgical services in general and subspecialty areas at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, MA, and Baystate Mary Lane Hospital in Ware, MA.  The broad range of clinical care areas and practitioners are organized by Division, and overseen by the Chairman of the Department of Surgery. Most recently, Baystate Medical Center and Baystate Franklin Medical Center's outpatient surgery services scored in the 100th percentile for "overall quality of care" in patient satisfaction reports issued by  Professional Research Consultants, Inc. (PRC). PRC is an independent agency that reviews and analyzes patient satisfaction for hospitals throughout the nation.

Independent evaluations and awards confirm Baystate Medical Center as one of the most successful hospitals nationwide in increasing patient safety and satisfaction and eliminating hospital-borne illnesses.  The Department of Surgery has made particular progress in:

Tufts University School of Medicine Faculty

Most Baystate staff surgeons are on the faculty of the Tufts University School of Medicine, with its Western Campus based at Baystate Medical Center.  This helps them keep abreast of the latest developments and most up to date perspectives in modern medicine. In addition, the Department of Surgery offers education programs for Residents, Fellows and Medical Students.
