Transplantation Services

Transplant Services at Baystate Medical Center provides full patient care to those requiring kidney transplants.  Living or deceased donor renal transplant is offered as treatment of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).  Services are available for the adult and pediatric populations.  Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy is available for suitable living donor candidates.

An experienced team of transplant professionals provide the highest quality of family centered care.  The team members include Transplant Surgeons, Nephrologists, Transplant Coordinators, Social Workers and Financial Counselors.

Referral for kidney transplant generally comes from community based Nephrologists.  Consult appointments offer patients, their families and prospective living donors the opportunity to meet with the transplant team.  This team will guide patients throughout their transplant experience; work-up phase, in-patient hospital course and post-op follow up.  Bilingual staff and teaching materials are available.
